Recovery and Support in Palumpa

June 1, 2026

New Title

West Daly Regional Council continues supporting recovery efforts in Palumpa following the community’s return earlier this year. During the evacuation period at the Batchelor Outdoor Education Centre, the Palumpa Community Safety Patrol (CSP) team maintained a presence and provided support activities where required. Council staff also assisted with mail distribution and coordination with local businesses and stakeholders to help maintain essential services throughout the period.

Recovery and restoration works are continuing within the community, with Lot 30 (Conference Hall) now cleaned and being prepared to operate as a temporary Council office, including Post Office and Centrelink services, while repairs to the main office are underway. Temporary accommodation has also been arranged for WDRC staff during housing repairs. Council services have progressively resumed, with local civil workers returning to duty and additional staff from Wadeye currently based in Palumpa to support civil works, clean-up coordination, and ongoing operational requirements within the community.
