Audit and Risk Management Committee

Purpose

The Audit and Risk Management Committee provides independent oversight, advice and assurance to the West Daly Regional Council on matters of governance, risk, and financial accountability.


 Its role is to help Council manage risks effectively, maintain strong internal controls, and continuously improve the way we deliver services to our communities.

Role and Responsibilities

The Committee supports Council by:

Reviewing Council’s systems for internal control, risk management and governance.

Monitoring compliance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.

Overseeing internal and external audit processes, including the implementation of audit recommendations.

Reviewing the annual financial statements before they are presented to Council.

Advising Council on key areas of risk that may affect its operations, reputation or financial sustainability.

Supporting continuous improvement in decision-making, transparency, and community confidence.

Membership

The Audit and Risk Management Committee includes:

Independent members with expertise in governance, finance, and risk management.

Elected Councillors who bring local and community perspectives.

Senior Council staff, including the Chief Executive Officer and Director of Corporate Services, who attend to provide reports and advice.

Meetings

The Committee meets at least twice per year, with additional meetings scheduled as needed.

Meetings are generally held at the Council’s head office in Wadeye and may include remote participation for members based elsewhere.
