Animal Management

Quick Access

Promoting Healthy Animals and Healthy Communities

The West Daly Regional Council is committed to delivering animal management services across all communities and Homelands within the region.

Dogs and other animals play an important role in community life and hold deep cultural significance for many residents. However, living conditions in remote areas can affect both animal and human health, with close links between the wellbeing of local dog populations and their human companions.

Unmanaged dog and cat populations can lead to issues such as:

Overpopulation and uncontrolled breeding

Transmission of zoonotic diseases (e.g. scabies and hookworm)

Noise and litter problems

Dangerous or threatening behaviour

Veterinary Services

In partnership with Animal Management in Rural and Remote Indigenous Communities (AMRRIC), the Council coordinates regular veterinary visits to ensure all communities have access to essential animal health care.

These visits provide services such as vaccinations, parasite control, desexing, and general animal welfare checks.
