Located within the Top End of the Northern Territory, the West Daly Regional Council (Council) covers 14,000 square kilometres and has a population of more than 3700 residents throughout the communities of Wadeye, Nganmarriyanga and Peppimenarti as well as the surrounding 33 homelands, a number of which are serviced by Council.   Wadeye is the largest remote community and the fifth largest town in the Northern Territory.   A young and vibrant Regional Council, our vision is to deliver quality services and support development opportunities, including local jobs for local people, along with implementing a range of strategies that will help shape a prosperous and sustainable future for the region.

Council are seeking an experienced Mechanic to be based out in the community of Wadeye. This position is responsible for the delivery of high quality, efficient and effective mechanical services of Council's fleet of vehicles and plant equipment.

Key Responsibilities include but, are not limited to - 

• carrying out a high standard of repairs and maintenance to Council’s fleet of vehicles and plant equipment 
• assisting with the development of the plant and vehicle maintenance program;
• ensuring the Senior Mechanic and Community Services Manager are advised of preventative maintenance requirements, and plant and vehicle conditions;
• transportation of vehicles, plant and equipment where required;
• report to the Senior Mechanic on major operational issues related to the workshop and any equipment misuse or damage;

Ideally, you will be trade qualified; a team player with very good communication and interpersonal skills; previous demonstrated experience working in a mechanical workshop and possess the following - 

• Authorised as a Vehicle Inspector (or, be willing to obtain) 
• Hold a Medium or Heavy Rigid classification.
• Hold appropriate tickets to operate heavy machinery (well regarded).
• Experience with ordering materials.
• Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
