Boost to Operations with New Prime Mover

West Daly Regional Council has recently added a new Prime Mover trailer truck to its fleet, further strengthening the Council’s operational capacity across the region.

The addition of this heavy vehicle will support the delivery of essential services, including the transport of equipment, materials and infrastructure required for works across communities. Given the vast distances within the region, reliable fleet assets play a vital role in ensuring projects and services can be delivered efficiently. This addition will support more efficient delivery of services and infrastructure works across communities in the West Daly region.

West Daly Regional Council extends its sincere thanks to the dedicated teams from Northern Territory Emergency Service for their incredible efforts in supporting the safe evacuation of community members from Palumpa during the recent flooding. Over the weekend, Council Service Professionals Tim Hema and Saad Afridi were present on the ground, working closely with emergency services to coordinate the evacuation of 156 residents from Palumpa. Their commitment and coordination helped ensure the safety and wellbeing of community members during a challenging time. Council also acknowledges the strong collaboration between Council teams and Northern Territory Government emergency services in responding quickly and effectively to support the community. The professionalism and dedication shown by everyone involved is deeply appreciated, and we look forward to welcoming residents safely back home once conditions improve. Community Library Opens

The Wadeye community recently came together to celebrate the Grand Opening of the new Library, marking an important milestone in improving access to learning and community resources.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives from the Northern Territory Government, along with grant funding representatives Anna and Jessica from Library & Archives NT, Department of People, Sport and Culture, Council representatives, and members of the local community. The event highlighted the significance of the new facility and the strong collaboration behind its delivery. The library will provide a welcoming and inclusive space for residents of all ages to access books, learning resources and community programs, supporting education, literacy and lifelong learning within the community. The day was also a celebration for the whole community, with a BBQ and activities including a water trampoline for children, bringing everyone together to enjoy the occasion. West Daly Regional Council acknowledges the support of funding partners and all stakeholders who contributed to making this important project a reality for Wadeye.

Community Safety Patrol Growing Stronger

Community Safety Patrol have been progressing

Community Safety Patrol day shifts have been progressing well since recommencing in November last year, with multiple patrols successfully completed. The team continues to provide support and maintain a visible presence in the community during daytime hours, responding to various

situations with professionalism and care. Our dedicated women-led day team has been serving the community where needed, and we are pleased to share that an additional team member joined in early February, bringing the day shift team to three. The team operates Monday to Friday from

9:00am to 4:00pm. Council is also in the process of onboarding another female staff member for the day shift and continues recruitment efforts to strengthen the current night shift team.

Perdjert Street Upgrade Strengthens Community Access

Perdjert Street Airport Access Road

The upgrade of the Perdjert Street Airport Access Road is almost complete, marking an important infrastructure improvement for the community. Delivered through funding from the Road to Recovery Program and the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program, the project involved upgrading approximately 550 metres of unsealed dirt road to a sealed standard. Line marking and final finishing works are now underway. The new sealed road improves accessibility for community members, service vehicles and visitors travelling to and from the airport. It also enhances safety, particularly during the wet season, and reduces the ongoing maintenance costs previously associated with sections of road impacted by heavy rainfall.

West Daly Regional Council is proud to announce that all Elected Members have successfully completed their mandatory training under Section 45 of the Local Government Act 2019. The training, delivered by the Department of Local Government, Housing and Community Development, was completed within just three months, well ahead of the required 12-month timeframe. West Daly Regional Council is the first Regional Council to complete this mandatory training, demonstrating a strong commitment to good governance, accountability and effective leadership. The training supports Elected Members to confidently understand their roles, responsibilities and decision-making obligations. This milestone reflects Council’s focus on building strong foundations and ensuring leadership is well equipped to support communities, guide strategic direction and deliver positive outcomes across the West Daly region.

Working Together for Healthy Animals and Communities

Strengthening Animal Welfare Across West Daly

Council continues its animal management program through its partnership with AMRRIC, delivering veterinary services and community engagement to support the health, wellbeing and safety of animals and communities.

From 1–5 December, AMRRIC veterinarians visited Wadeye to complete a census and undertake door-to-door non-surgical services. This work builds on ongoing animal management efforts delivered across the region. Dogs and other companion animals play an important role in community life, and these programs help address issues such as overpopulation, disease and animal welfare.

Council staff worked alongside AMRRIC veterinary teams during clinics, supporting community engagement and gaining valuable experience in animal welfare and management.

To manage seasonal challenges, future programs will be scheduled between May and September, with fly-in and fly-out services used where required. Information gathered through recent activities will directly inform planning for a coordinated 2026 animal management program across the entire region.

‘No More’ Violence March

Standing together to say No More

Community members came together on 11 December 2025 to take part in the No More Violence March, standing united against domestic and family violence and sending a strong message of safety, respect and support.

The march served as a powerful reminder that everyone deserves to feel safe and valued in their home and community. By taking to the streets together, participants showed their commitment to saying ‘No More’ to violence and supporting those affected.

The event also highlighted the importance of education and awareness in creating positive change. Through shared voices and collective action, the marchers stood strong in saying violence has no place in our communities.
